Welcome to a healthier life!! :)

Hi my friends!

I think this blog has been a LONG time in coming! Yesterday I found out that, after 8 years and who knows how many different medications, my cholesterol numbers are still horrible and my liver enzymes are elevated! What the heck!?!?
I've decided to take matters into my own hands. Today I've started my brand new life style for the next month. Possibly for the rest of my life if it works!
I know that many of you have cholesterol issues as well and we have all been told of the numerous ways to lower it.
Well, I'm changing and fixing my cholesterol and liver myself! Well, I HOPE I can fix my numbers myself! :)
As I make this journey I want to share with you what I'm doing, what I'm adding and deleting from my life, and the changes; if any; I see along the way.
Hopefully I can help not only myself, but anyone else who is struggling!

First, I would like to share a little bit about myself.  I grew up in Mesa, AZ where my family lived until I was 20. We moved to Orem, UT and that is where I met my husband. We were married in 1983. In these 28 years we've been together we have lived in 4 states....Utah, Arizona, Indiana, and now Iowa, where we've lived for 10 years. We have 4 wonderful children, to awesome son-in-laws, and a perfectly handsome little grandson!
I was a very little child...short AND skinny. But, once I hit puberty all of that changed! When I was 12 years old and entering Jr. High I was 5' 2" and weighed 75 lbs. (See, wasn't kidding about the skinny part!) By the time I finished High School 6 1/2 years later I had gained 10 lbs. a year putting me at 135 lbs. (Yes, I am still 5' 2") The summer I graduated from High School I went to Europe for a month. I told myself I would try all of the food no matter what! 3 1/2 weeks and 15 lbs. later I returned home. I was now a whopping 150 lbs.! Through the course of my first year of College I fell victim to the "Freshman 15". I was stil 5' 2" and weighing 165 lbs.!! WHAT THE HECK!?!? If you asked me today how in the world that happened I seriously could not give you a definitive answer!

At that point my family moved to Utah.  In the course of the next 2 1/2 years I lost 55 lbs. Once again, if you asked me how I did it, I honestly could not answer you! Seems odd, but it's true! Several years ago my husband found out he has cardiovascular disease. At the age of 41 he had 5 stents put in his heart. Two arteries were blocked 95%! He was a walking time-bomb! At about that same time I found out I had bad cholesterol. My quest for better health began.

As I began to research about cholesterol and heart health I found that I really didn't know much about being healthy! I chose, at that time, to change my lifestyle, eating habits, and exercise routine. I really wanted to become fit and possibly be a personal trainer. I have learned a LOT that I hope to share.

So, my journey to better cholesterol begins.  Today I went shopping for food and supplements. I am currently putting together a menu full of meals, snacks, supplements, etc. I plan on keeping to it for 5 to 6 weeks and will then go in and have my blood work done again. I will post here every day and share my successes, failures (hopefully there won't be any!), insights, etc. Anything and everything that will help us be healthier and more fit!

I hope you will follow my journey and that we can help each other. I'm excited to share with each of you the things I have learned and the things I WILL learn. I hope you all have a Healthy and Happy New Year!!
